We present you our story about our Lipizzans and their charm, which we no longer can live without.
On this website we cannot show the drumming of the ground, when a herd is returning to a home barn from all-day grazing. We cannot show the smell of the spring grass, on which a few days or a few weeks old foals lie, and we cannot show, how honest, gentle and soft a horse’s muzzle is, when it comes for a piece of dry bread, and how careful it is when it reads crumbs between fingers.
We decided to breed the Lipizzan horses out of respect for tradition and love of nature. The Lipizzans are the oldest cultural breed of horses, which means they are the longest systematically bred horses. As a result, centuries of thoughtful and planned breeding of small Lipizzan breed have gathered up the best qualities of horses.
Because nature conservation is important to us, we have decided on sustainable and organic farming. This means that we farm similarly to what our ancestors farmed. We do use machines, but the principle of tillage has not changed significantly. In our area there is a pronounced overgrowing of agricultural land that is not suitable for mechanical treatment. To prevent this from happening on our farm, horses graze grass on the terrain that is inaccessible to the tractor. In this way, we help to preserve the cultural landscape more widely, so that the forest will not reach out right to the village.
Neža and Primož Tanko took over the farm in 2013, and in 2015 we brought the first two Lipizzan mares. Since then, we have been constantly improving the number as well as the quality of animals. Every autumn we present at least one foal at the breeding evaluation of ZRLS in the Lipica Stud Farm. Since our capacities are limited, we plan to remain a small farm. Our future lies in the excellence we achieve step by step, day after day.
